Commercial Vehicle Breakdown Help in Knoxville: Call Checklist

Updated: Sep 6
When a work van, delivery truck or commercial vehicle stops, dispatch needs enough information to assess roadside help or towing. Call ACT Roadside Assistance at 866-597-5872. This is ACT’s shared dispatch number for service requests in Knoxville and the current Hanover and ACT service areas.
Start with the driver and pickup location
Give a callback number for the person with the vehicle and identify the company or fleet. Provide the street address or highway number, direction of travel and nearest exit or mile marker. At a warehouse or truck stop, describe the entrance and the vehicle’s position on the property.
Give details that affect equipment selection
Vehicle make, model, approximate size and fleet unit number.
Whether a trailer is attached and whether it is loaded.
The symptoms: will not start, flat tire, lockout, fuel issue, mechanical breakdown or collision damage.
Whether the vehicle can roll and steer, and whether the keys are available.
Access limits such as a narrow gate, overhead clearance, soft ground or blocked loading area.
Describe what you know without attempting an unsafe inspection. Roadside assistance suitability depends on the vehicle and conditions; a phone request is not a promise that the problem can be repaired on site.
Connect the person who can approve the work
Tell dispatch who can authorize the estimate and who will arrange payment. If the fleet needs a purchase order, internal reference or a specific destination, raise that before a truck is assigned. Confirm the receiving location and whether it can accept the vehicle.
Ask dispatch to confirm the proposed service, availability, expected timing and charges. Nighttime truck availability is limited and after-hours pricing is substantially higher.
Choose the next step with dispatch
For a truck or trailer requiring transport, review commercial and semi-truck towing. For an overturned vehicle, load shift or difficult access, review heavy-vehicle recovery and explain those conditions when calling.
